UKMT Maths Competition
On Tuesday February 4th, Alan and Meredith from the upper sixth, along with Lisa and Selena from the lower sixth, competed in the National Final of the United Kingdom Mathematical Trust Senior Team Challenge at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London. Our team of four qualified for the national final by winning the regional final, held at Bishops Blue Coat High School, Chester on November 14th. Over 1200 schools participated across all regional finals, with the best eighty-eight schools qualifying for the national final. After four rounds of intense problem solving, our team finished in 2nd place, with Westminster School securing the title and Winchester College in 3rd place. We are extremely proud of Alan, Meredith, Lisa and Selena! Both Alan and Meredith have received offers to study at Cambridge.
Participation in UKMT competitions is an integral part of the activities of the Mathematics Department at Ruthin School. This academic year, over 100 pupils attempted the Individual Senior Maths Challenge, with 27 pupils qualifying for round one of the British Mathematical Olympiad. On February 6th, 70 pupils across forms 3, 4 and 5 attempted the Intermediate Maths Challenge, and we eagerly await their results. Our Junior Maths Challenge team will compete in the regional final held at Rydal Penrhos School on 12th March.
