Junior Year 5 Maths Day

The annual Ruthin School Junior Maths day was held on Friday 28th April. This was the sixth iteration of the event, the inaugural Junior Maths day was held back in 2012. The event was attended by fifty four year 5 pupils from across eleven local schools.

The competition was comprised of four rounds. The opening round required pupils to correctly identify a rule for progressing from one element of a sequence to the next. In round two, pupils were tasked with completing a challenging crossnumber puzzle within 30 minutes. The penultimate round took the pupils outside with the aim of locating and answering mathematical questions posted at various points across the school grounds. The competition culminated with a high-octane relay, where the pupils had to sprint back and forth after attempting each question. At the close of play, the top three teams read as follows: 1st place Fairholme School, 2nd place The Firs School and in 3rd place Ysgol Pendref.
