Following the change to the timetables for KS3, I was able to offer a gardening club on Tuesday afternoons. School allocated us an area between the portacabins and the science block and provided us with sleepers to make raised beds.
With 12 willing volunteers we set to work. The first job was for the pupils to decide on the layout of the beds. They made a plan and set to work moving the sleepers. With help from the school gardening team, the sleepers were fixed in place and the pupils began to fill them.
Over the summer holidays I had sown seeds for some vegetables; cabbage, lettuce and coriander being a few. In week 2 we were able to begin some planting. Some of the team began preparing an area for us to grow wildflowers whilst others started planting bulbs.
If any parents/carers have any “spare bulbs”, please feel free to send them in to school with your child. Let’s get Ruthin School blooming!
