Formula One Competition Success

  • Earlier this month, Ruthin School competed in a Formula 1 Schools North Wales Regional Final at Venue Cymru, Llandudno. Two teams of Form 2 pupils competed in the Entry Class and our Sixth Form team entered the Development Class. Being the first time we have entered this competition we were delighted to become regional winners in both classes. This was particularly impressive for the Form 2 team, as 10 teams were competing in their class.

The two winning teams have been invited to attend the National Finals at Silverstone on 29th March, where the sixth form team will compete against the winners of all the other regional finals in Development Class.

All three teams put in a lot of time and effort. They have worked on the challenge since September. They had to design scale formula 1 cars using CAD software, and prototyping on our 3D printer. These were then sent off for manufacture at Bangor University ready for the teams to prepare and paint them. They also had to prepare Engineering portfolios, verbal presentations and pit displays.

The Form 2 pupils are already preparing to compete in Development Class next year, all six pupils joining together to form Ballistix. You can keep up to date with their activities at www.ballistix.org.uk.

The Sixth Form team (also known as Blitz) are working hard to up their game for the National Final. You can follow their progress in the build-up to Silverstone on Facebook: F1BlitzRacing
