Football match report – Shrewsbury

This was the U16’s first away game of the season. The game started well with Ruthin attacking against a strong Shrewsbury side. Javid had a good shot, which was saved by their keeper, and Josh made some good runs, having a shot which went just wide. Shrewsbury then attacked and, unfortunately for Ruthin, scored a good goal. It was 1-0 to Shrewsbury. Ruthin pushed players forward which Shrewsbury utilised and scored another goal, making it 2-0 to Shrewbury at half time.

Ruthin had to make some tactical changes to try and get back into the game. The second half started well with Ruthin having a number of chances. Javid shot from just outside the box and scored, meaning it was now 2-1. Ruthin’s confidence then increased and very quickly Javid passed a good ball to Jack who slotted the ball nicely into the goal to make it 2-2. Ruthin and Shrewsbury continued to attack to try and win the game. Unfortunately, 5 minutes from the end, Shrewsbury played a ball over the top and one of their players scored to make it 3-2 to Shrewsbury. The game ended 3-2. It was a very entertaining game: both teams played well and players put in a lot of hard work. Shrewsbury’s coach said a draw would have been fair. Ruthin play at home in 2 weeks’ time.

Roan was awarded Man of the match for his defensive work and leadership throughout the game.
