Duke of Edinburgh

Pupils in Form Three take part in an enrichment activity on a Monday afternoon to introduce and prepare them for participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. This activity is practically based and is aimed at pupils acquiring the skills needed in order to competently complete the expedition section of the award.

Pupils have taken part local walks and familiarised themselves with basic map and compass skills. They have also worked as part of a group to prepare simple meals using gas stoves. Some pupils will have the opportunity to sign up to the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme in Form Three and this may provide them with sufficient time to access both the Silver and maybe even the Gold Award during their time at Ruthin School. The award scheme is well-recognised and may help to strengthen their university applications in the future.
