U16 Football v Glan Clwyd

The U16 football team visited Glan Clwyd on Thursday for a friendly football fixture. This was a tough game with Glan Clwyd putting out a strong side which were all Form 5. However, our team was a mix of Forms 3-5 and even including a Form 2 (Richard Jones). The team acquitted themselves exceptionally well, the game started off quickly with both sides fully committed. Glan Clwyd took the lead after 10 minutes with a well worked goal but Ruthin did not give up and equalised with a clinical finish from Alex Edwards who was put through by Sam Jones. Glan Clwyd then took the lead through a sloppy defensive clearance making it 2-1, however once again Ruthin drew level through the best worked goal of the game. Ben Welsby moved the ball to the left were Alex put a first time pass to Sam he then took on two players and got to the byline. He then crossed it and coming in on the back post was Alex T to slot it home, this made it 2-2 at half time. The second half was very different with Glan Clwyd coming on strong and managing to create a good lead with some well worked goals and through poor defending and tiredness throughout the side. Alex T did suffer a painful blow between the legs and was heard in the new city centre of St Asaph. He recovered well to produce a Ruthin Man of the Match performance.
It was fantastic display especially in the first half and one that can be built on.
