St. Peters 700th Anniversary

Earlier in the summer, students from across Denbighshire were invited to take part in an exciting art competition, which celebrated the 700th Foundation of the Collegiate Church of St. Peters, Ruthin and the close association with Ruthin School, dating back to 1283.

Students were asked to submit their interpretation of aspects of the buildings and surrounding area which encapsulate the historic significance of this anniversary and the continuity of life and Christian worship on this site throughout the centuries.

A wide range of work was submitted which evinced rich, imaginative interpretations.  The finalists were chosen earlier in the summer by Messrs John Henry and Nicholas Blandford of Ruthin School, who were most impressed with the standard of the entries and commended all who took part.

The winning artwork was mounted, framed and hung in the nave of the Church, subsequent to which a service of dedication was held on Friday 5th September.

The public are cordially invited to visit St. Peters and see the pictures in situ, where they will be on show until November.

Pictured (see attached) are Messrs Toby Belfield, Principal of Ruthin School, John Henry, Teacher of Art, Ruthin School & Miss Bethan Rogers-Jones, Teacher of Art, Ysgol Brynhyfryd, together with all winning competitors.
