Our annual Sports Day took place on the afternoon of Wednesday 27th May. This would be the first sports day with a different format of 5 houses. However, the competition was as close as ever in many of the field events and the track races. Some notable performances came from Letty Ramoeli, Austen House, who came first in the Junior Girls Javelin and Shot Put. Richard Jones, Churchill House, came first in the Senior Boys Long Jump and Triple Jump. Christopher Liu, Brunel House, was first in the Junior boys 400m and Long Jump. Sarah Giles, Brunel House, won the Senior Girls 400m and Shot Put. Nick Young, Austen House, came first in Discus and 200m. Lauren Mueller, Austen House, won the 800m and 1500m. Tom Butler, Churchill House, came first in the Junior Boys 200m, 1500m and Triple Jump.
The competition started evenly with points being shared between the Houses; however, a strong showing in the track events gave Austen House a lead at the half way point. Churchill’s successes in the field events and the Junior and Senior Boys 1500m meant that just before the 4 relays took place Churchill had managed to catch up with Austen and the scores were level. This made the relays very important and exciting with big points going to both houses. As the relays took place, Churchill House managed to gain 2 more points in the relays therefore allowing Churchill House to gain the overall Sports Day House Shield. The winners of the 4 House Cups for Sports Day went to:
Junior Girls AUSTEN Junior Boys BRUNEL
Senior Girls CHURCHILL Senior Boys AUSTEN
