Ruthin v Oswestry School Football
Wednesday 1st October
From the start it was going to be a tough game against Oswestry school who we had not beaten in two matches last year. We went into the game expecting a challenge and ready to give our all. However, when a call from the referee led to us conceding a penalty, our hopes took a hit. Oswestry converted and we were a goal down within minutes. Our team did well to regain their heads, with George marshalling the troops, helping us to equalise. Nikita and Alikhan produced an excellent move before the ball was saved by the keeper, but he could only parry the ball allowing Jace Ni to convert. However, before the half time whistle Oswestry produced a goal to regain the lead and take us into half time a goal down.
The second half was much tougher. Despite hard work from the defence, including some excellent tackles from Nathan and a header off the line from Arun, the referee never failed to frustrate us, with call after call going Oswestry's way and denying Ruthin any momentum. Oswestry were most dangerous with their goals coming mainly from set pieces.
Overall an underwhelming performance, however Ruthin came away with many positives. Ruthin played well overall with the whole team putting in 100% effort. A combination of fatigue and poor decisions were our enemy, though this is sure to improve as the season progresses.
