Ruthin School Walks For Life

During half-term the Fundraising Group went on a 5km ‘Wings of Hope – Walk for Life’ at Moel Famau, Ruthin, to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The 30 team members all wore tiny pink wings for the occasion.
The event was organised by Years 9 and 10 and funds were raised in a variety of ways. Firstly, three representatives of the fundraising group went to the Polish Home in Penrhos, on the Llyn Peninsula, to get sponsors. The residents at the Polish Home have always given generously to this cause and were delighted to have the three students from Year 10 visit them. Funds were also raised through Donation Stations around the school manned by the students on a rota system as well as on-line donations. The total amount collected was £372.26.
This was the second of six fundraising events organised by the group. The first event was a ‘Pink Day’ on which students and staff could wear ‘home clothes’ as long as they wore something pink and contributed £1. Other planned events include a ‘Ruthin School’s Got Talent’ contest, ‘Pyjama Day’, the Christmas Dance and some Christmas carol singing around Ruthin.
The Ruthin School Fundraising Group are a registered fundraiser and work closely with Cancer Research UK and their representatives. On Monday, 2nd November, Mr. David Fielding, the CRUK Fundraising Manager for the north-west area, came to give a talk to the school’s sixth formers and to encourage and support them in their work. He will be coming again in two-weeks’ time to speak to Years 9 and 10.
The total funds raised to date amount to over £600, approximately 40% of the target the students have set for themselves. Their goal is to collect £1,500 before the Christmas holidays.
