Lower 6th geography trip to Prestatyn and Talacre
Last Friday the Lower 6th geography students took part in the first of their required fieldwork days. Luckily the weather was hot and sunny for our visit to the North Wales coast – starting at Rhyl then visiting Prestatyn and Talacre. During the day the students were taught and practised coastal data collection techniques, including measuring the height of groynes and the dimensions of rock armour in order to determine the effectiveness of the defences, measuring the gradient of the beach, and measuring the vegetation cover and species diversity of the sand dunes. We also talked about possible titles for the students’ independent investigations (coursework) which they will be starting once we return to school in September.
