Liverpool University Maths Challenges

Each year the University runs three challenge competitions in the Merseyside and North Wales area.
They are the Challenge (Forms 1 and 2), Senior Challenge (Forms 3, 4 and 5) and Open Challenge (Sixth form). Several of our students entered the competition this year by writing solutions to mathematical problems set on an Olympic theme.
In the Open challenge Stephen Brown was given overall first place in the competition whilst Qiyue (Ruby) and Jing(Sophia) were given fourth place prizes.
In the senior challenge the top mark in school was from Betty Shi but Wen Huey (Samuel) and David Zhang as well as Betty were all awarded third prizes.
In the challenge Francine Whitehead was awarded the best mark in the school although she did not win an overall prize in the competition. She will be awarded a certificate in a future assembly.
Congratulations to all the prize winners. It is a great achievement to be awarded a prize in these competitions. All the prize winners have been invited to receive their prizes at evenings of mathematical recreation, held at the Mathematics Department at the University of Liverpool, which are due to take place over the next two weeks. Thank you to Mrs Morley for taking our boarders to these evenings.
