Football match v St David’s College

A young Ruthin team took to the field against a much older settled St David’s side. When the game began the team started slowly allowing St David’s to control the early stages. Some sloppy defending by Ruthin enabled St David’s to take a 3 goal lead. Their forward, who was big and powerful, took full advantage scoring two goals and setting up the other. The team never let their heads drop and started to come back in the game and played some very attractive football. H/T 3-0.
The second half was more even and within a minute of kick off Alikhan nearly put Ruthin on the score sheet making the keeper save after a flowing move involving Gerald and Mikita. This was followed by our best spell of the match with Mikita forcing three corners in a row and almost leading to a goal. The defence stood up to the more physical St David’s side with both Nathan and Richard defending with maturity and skill.  Jace, who came on for the injured Abylay, had his best game for Ruthin to date. Eventually we got the goal that our play deserved when Rich connected with ball from 30 metres which flew in to the net aided by a slight deflection. St David’s then regrouped and forced the ball home to make it 4-1 and that is how the game finished.
The team never gave up and all gave 100%, but particular praise goes to George  who gave a sterling central midfield performance.
