Football Match v St David’s 19th March

We started the match well, pressing high and dealing with long balls against a very physical side.  The defence held strong and guarded the goal well.

Midway through the first half, we conceded a poor goal through an individual error.  We searched for an equaliser and a corner was headed straight to Sam who hit a ferocious volley into the bottom corner.   This gave us a new lease of life and we began to attack with more tenacity. Ianto worked tirelessly down the wing and his pace was causing St. David’s huge problems. Robin and Gerald battled well in midfield with some strong tackles and powerful runs from deep.  Mikita won the headers in the midfield and worked hard with some good closing down and pressing.

Our first meaningful attack saw Rich play a ball up to George’s feet who laid the ball off to Ianto who’s through ball fell to Sam who rounded the keeper to slot into an empty net.  Mikita had a late chance after good work from Ianto, but he failed to control and the ball drifted out for a throw.  A superb save from Louis was tipped over the bar to keep Ruthin in front.
HT – Ruthin 2-1 St. David’s

We began the second half with more composure and passing the ball better.  Ianto’s pace and width provided a good outlet ball. Louis was virtually untroubled after the defence held strong with some good marshalling by Alex against very pacey opposition. Arun gave more cover down the left and battled well in midfield.  Cheta and Ianto both missed one on one chances.

A quick throw and some short passing by Rich and Gerald released Sam who beat his man and got his cross in which was handled by two of the St. David’s defenders and we were awarded a penalty. Sam tucked the penalty away for his hat trick and gained his 21st goal in his 8th appearance.  The game ended 3-1 and we ended the season with a win and collected our 6th win from 8 games, drawing one and losing only one, which is a great achievement.
