DofE Practice Expedition
On Saturday 29th May, 47 students from Ruthin School took part in a practice expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. It was an eagerly anticipated event as our students were enthusiastic about having the opportunity to embark on a group based adventurous activity once again.
Day one saw us start from the ‘Bwlch Pen Barras’ carpark, near the summit of Moel Famau and structure a meandering route to our campsite, the familiar surroundings of Ruthin School! Students camped in their own individual tents to comply with current COVID guidelines, and our grounds provided ample space for socially distanced cooking areas.
On our second and final day of our DofE practice exhibition, the start point was Llandegla and students followed the ‘Offa’s Dyke’ path in somewhat warmer weather conditions to the ‘Clwyd Gate’. Despite appearing rather tired, our students remained in good spirits and are clearly looking forward to the qualifying DofE event which is scheduled to take place at Bala in June.
