A Level Results 2015

This year our cohort of 54 students in Upper Sixth achieved outstanding results, the best the School has ever seen. The percentage of grades this year at A* and A has increased to 72.25% (last year 69.33%) with 31% of all grades being A*. The pass rate was 100% again this year.

Many of the students have had their first choice university place confirmed through UCAS, with 5 students going to Cambridge and nearly everyone else going to a top ranking university including UCL, LSE, King's College, Imperial, Durham, Bristol, Exeter and Nottingham.

7 students achieved at least 3 A* grades with the average student at Ruthin School achieving 417 UCAS points (roughly equivalent to A*A*A).

Notable successes this year include Robin, who achieved 5 A* grades and will head to Imperial College to study Engineering. Olivia achieved 4 A* grades and 1 A. Her Mathematics results were perfect, gaining 100% in all 12 Mathematics and Further Mathematics modules (1200/1200). She also achieved full marks in all Physics A2 modules (300/300). Olivia will go to Trinity College, Cambridge, to study Mathematics and has been awarded a 100% scholarship (covering all fees and living costs) as a result of her academic excellence.

At AS Level the results were similarly impressive. Alice, the Head Girl (and still only 15 years only), was the top student – achieving 599/600 in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, 300/300 in Physics and 289/300 in Chemistry. She intends to apply to Cambridge to read Mathematics.

Toby Belfield, Principal, commented: "For several years now our students have been achieving extremely excellent results. Not only do they strive for top grades, but they are focused on achieving 100% in as many individual modules as possible. The desire and drive for perfection is evident, and I am proud that our students are aiming high.

Ruthin School is expanding at a rapid rate, with pupil numbers having reached 310 for this coming September. This means that we can invest in our School, such as improving facilities, employing more teachers, and providing even more opportunities for our young people.

Having yet another year of fantastic A Level results will continue to give our parents (in the local community and overseas) confidence that our School is, indeed, one of the best schools in the UK, focusing on academic excellence. We are pleased to be able to provide our students with entry to the best universities in the world."
