U18s Football report v Shrewsbury

Ruthin U18s V Shrewsbury

Ruthin went in to the game hoping to take revenge from a 3-2 defeat at Shrewsbury. The game started brightly with both sides trying to take control of the game. As the game developed, Shrewsbury gained the upper hand and deservedly took the lead through a very well executed goal. Ruthin were struggling to come to terms with the Shrewsbury attack and a defensive lapse allowed Shrewsbury to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

A few harsh words were said at half time and Ruthin came out with purpose and determination. Good work from Josh allowed Tom to score from just inside the area. It was a good goal and showed what Ruthin were capable of producing. This was then followed by sustained pressure from Ruthin and some good goal scoring opportunities were created. However, this could not be maintained and another defensive mistake allowed Shrewsbury to score and take control of the match. If it was not for Henry and Nick, who shared goalkeeping duties, then the deficit of 4-1 could have been greater.
