Drama

A number of pupils go on to this profession.

Drama involves many members of the community on both sides of the curtain. Valuable skills are developed and in recent years the School has enjoyed productions of ‘Macbeth’, ‘The Crucible’, ‘Oliver’, ‘Rats’, ‘Murder in the Cathedral’,’Kes’, ‘Viva Mexico’, ‘Grease’, ‘West Side Story’, ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. On many occasions the music department works closely with the drama department. Members of staff are involved in all aspects of the performances and the co-operation between staff and pupils is a strength of the School.

Sixth Form pupils in both Art and English have developed their coursework through the medium of Drama, designing sets and being involved in directing productions. The backstage is also headed by a pupil and the crew have put forward a development plan to improve the facilities in this area. These members of the School are developing very valuable skills for later life.

A number of pupils have gone on to study drama and allied fields at university and are making their way in this profession. They have undoubtedly had an excellent training at Ruthin.

Music and drama come together in the Performing Arts Festival, involving members of each of the five houses. This results in an afternoon of prose, poetry, plays, musical ensembles, solos and house choirs.
