I, Bertolt Brecht Theatre Trip

Thought-provoking and immensely entertaining production

Last week a dedicated band of theatre attended a production of ‘I, Bertolt Brecht’, at Venue Cymru, Llandudno. Tracing the hugely influential career of Brecht before, between, and after the World Wars, the small company illustrated Brecht’s working life, Philosophies of Theatre and referenced small vignettes of his major plays, (singing many of his songs, also) in this excellent and intimate illustration of an exceptional man, and a giant of Twentieth Century Literature.

Thought-provoking and immensely entertaining, the production opened students’ eyes to the man and his oeuvre: fixing him at the centre of the development of Western Theatre; tracing his concepts of engagement in the face of complacency and ignorance. Confronting the intolerance of 1930s Nazi Germany and 1950s Macarthyist USA, Brecht continues to call us to question the status quo and act to improve the world in which we live. Accept nothing, question always.
