Commonwealth Boxer visits Ruthin School
Pupils endure a 'Sport for All' workout
On Monday 26th March Ruthin School hosted a Boxing World Champion in the form of Stephen Smith. He, along with representatives of Sport 4 All North, organised a afternoon of exercise in the sports hall. The afternoon was run as a House competition with each House gaining sponsorship in aid of up and coming athletes and the school.
The total amount raised by the school was over £600 which was a tremendous achievement. Casson House raised the largest amount with George DVD and Richard Perry raising £150 by carrying out a monster bike ride. Each House carried out different events to raise money from car washing to noodle selling.
The healthy living exercises were carried out by all pupils and staff making it a fantastic event. Some pupils were dripping sweat while others were gasping for breath including Mr Blandford. Some people were over enthusiastic such as Miss Zhao and some were uncoordinated such as Richard Jones trying to do spotty dogs. Murray Whitehead was picked out by Stephen Smith as the best pupil he as ever seen to carry out press-ups, he did them non-stop for a minute.
After all had completed the exercises we met up in the hall were Stephen gave out certificates and talked about his life as a boxer. The highlight being Stephen showing his World Boxing Organisation Belt and his Commonwealth Champion Belt, both were met with gasps from the pupils.
