It was an away fixture at Glan Clwyd on a very wet Thursday afternoon. The fixture was the first of the year for the Ruthin Team. The game started with both teams attacking from the start on a wet, slippery surface. Glan Clwyd took the lead from a corner with Louis Pritchard making three outstanding saves to keep Ruthin in the game.
Ruthin eventually settled and took control of the match. Sam Jones equalised with a looping shot from 30 yards. Sam then broke away and managed to score from a rebound off the keeper. The half time whistle blew with the game at 2-1 to Ruthin.
The second half was again an open game but as it progressed, Ruthin took control. But as in most football games the opposition scored against the run of play due to a slight mistake in defence.
The scores did not remain level for long as Sam Jones completed his hat-trick with a curling 20 yard shot that went in off the post. The final whistle blew with Ruthin winning 3-2. Man of the Match - Sam Jones for his excellent hat trick and Alex Edwards for a solid game on his debut playing two years above his age group.
